The summer of 2020 should have been loaded with sporting events, but due to the pandemic, the majority was canceled. One of the most awaited by the public and athletes, all categories combined, namely the 2020 Olympic Games, has been postponed for a year.

Where and when should the 2020 Olympics take place and what are the new dates?

It was in September 2013 that the city of Tokyo was awarded the hosting of the Games of the XXXIIth Olympiad, for the second time in its history, having already hosted it in 1964.

Due to the pandemic, the Games did not take place. They were to be held from July 24, 2020 and their closing ceremony was scheduled for August 9, 2020.

The Paralympic events were to take place from August 25 to September 6, 2020. On the decision of the Japanese Prime Minister and with the agreement of the IOC, the Olympic Games were finally postponed, at the latest, to the summer of the year next.

The Olympics will therefore take place from July 23 to August 8, 2021.

This Japanese Olympiad will welcome 2 novelties: the entry of 5 disciplines namely karate, surfing (without Kelly Slater unfortunately), skateboarding, baseball-softball, sport climbing and the number of events would increase to move to 339.

Finally, be aware that Russia was banned from these Olympics (but also the 2022 Winter Games) for doping; its own athletes will compete under a neutral flag.
