How many cat owners, you would like to understand what your furry friend is thinking. Unfortunately, deciphering the language of cats is far from easy. To help you complete this difficult mission, a former Amazon engineer has just launched Meow Talk, the first smartphone service capable of translating your cat’s meows into human language.
How does Meow Talk work?
Cats are not mere companions, but full members of the family. They know how to interact and communicate with human beings. However, their postures, their looks, their facial expressions, their purrs remain mostly mysterious to ordinary people.
You never know if the cat is meowing because he is hungry, scared, mail or just hugging. Understanding and recognizing the language of felines is the key to building a unique relationship with your cat.
Translating cats’ meows might sound like science fiction. And yet it is the risk bet that Javier Sanchez, a former Amazon engineer in charge of the development of the personal assistant Alexa has set himself.
He has just created the Meow Talk application to help cat owners decipher the vocalizations of their companions. This translator 2.0 uses artificial intelligence and machine learning to translate your cat’s unique sound into intention. The application retained nine of them.
- Mamam, where are you?
- I’m hungry
- I hunt
- Leave me alone
- I am in pain
- I will attack
- I want to go outside
- I’m in love
- I’m fed up
Obviously, each cat has its own repertoire of meows. So instead of integrating a single sound base, the Meow Talk app allows users to create unique profiles and record the meow of their chats.
Identify the different types of meows
Before you start, you should know that the Meow Talk application is still in the development phase. Engineers continue to work on fine-tuning the system. This didn’t stop Meow Talk from ranking ninth most downloaded apps on the Play Store at the end of the summer.
- Download the app Meow Talk from the Play Store
- You don’t have to create an account to use the meow translator
- Click on the skip sign in button to access the home page
- Press the cats tab then the plus button to create your cat’s profile
- Then come back to the talk tab
- Place your phone in front of your cat
- Press the orange disc topped with a cat’s head
- When using for the first time you will be asked to authorize the Meow Talk app to record audio content on your smartphone
- Press the allow button
- Wait a few seconds
The application will then attempt to decode the chat language. It is then up to you to judge the relevance of the information offered. If you are not satisfied with the result, Meow Talk gives you the option of associating the recorded meow with a phrase. This technology allows the tool to learn and improve.
Note that the application is entirely in English. People allergic to Shakespeare’s language will have to go their way or download a second translation app this time to switch from English to French.
