The supporting characters in Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes are the seasoning of the meal. Caffeine for a good start to the day. Yoda backpack to Luke Skywalker. While support characters are not often the main feature of team building in SWGOH, they elevate the key elements of your team to reach new heights in combat.
No support character is the same in SWGOH. There are a variety of different roles in the umbrella term of support, as some characters can manipulate Turn Meter, heal allies, generate buffs, call all allies to attack, and do a lot more. In this list, we’re looking for the best support characters to farm in SWGOH.
Wat Tambor is the best plug-and-play character in SWGOH, bringing value to the Dark Side and Light Side teams. Its versatile kit can heal, revive, and grant unique status effects. Only Wat Tambor can give tech buffs to allied characters. There are three different pieces of Tech:
- Chiewab Medpac – Recover 5% Health and Protection at the start of each character’s turn, and 5% Bonus Protection if that character is a Separatist.
- Baktoid Shield Generator – At the start of the turn, regain 30% protection and dispel your own debuffs. Tanks don’t care as long as they have protection.
- BlasTech weapon mod – Gain 15% Turn Meter at the start of each enemy’s turn. Attacks ignore defense, and enemies defeated by this character cannot be revived.
Wat Tambor doesn’t deal damage directly, but does deal damage over time debuffs if he uses his base ability outside of his turn. His kit is best suited for a Separatist squad, but he’s more valuable in a squad with Sith Eternal Emperor (L), The Armorer, and two other beefy Dark Side characters like Darth Malak, Darth Vader, or Darth Sion.
Early or mid-game players might have a hard time unlocking Wat Tambor. You can unlock it through Dark Side Geonosis Territory Battle. The Geonosians are the required faction if you are looking to farm Shards for Wat Tambor, so be sure to have them ready if you are looking to consistently earn Shards for yourself and your guild. It is valuable in all game modes of SWGOH and is of tremendous value to many teams in the Challenge Tier Rancor Raid.
Grand Admiral Thrawn
Grand Admiral Thrawn was SWGOH’s best plug-and-play character. He was dethroned after a two-year reign when Wat Tambor released in June 2019. Despite losing that title, Thrawn is a phenomenal supporting character in SWGOH.
There isn’t a character who can handle Turn Meter better than Grand Admiral Thrawn. His kit provides extremes by swapping Turn Meter with allies, and his special ability offers a unique debuff, Fracture, which will prevent an enemy from taking a turn until Thrawn takes a turn or is defeated. Use Fracture on tanks that taunt frequently, or on high damage attackers. This will open up a hole for your team to clean up the rest, saving this fractured character for last.
Thrawn’s worth in SWGOH is primarily achieved in an Empire squad of units. Thrawn is best used with Emperor Palpatine (L), Darth Vader, Admiral Piett, and Darth Nihilus. Waste no time deploying them against Jedi Knight Revan, General Anakin Skywalker, Darth Revan, Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker or any other galactic legend.
There is little Thrawn cannot do as he is the pilot of the capital ship, Chimeara. There is so much value in this character, which makes him a staple on your SWGoH roster.
Geonosian Brood Alpha
Geonosian Brood Alpha is the main character of a Geonosian squad in SWGOH despite his Support tag. The Geonosian Squad is useless without Geonosian Brood Alpha providing the summoned character, Geonosian Brute, and the passive ability to summon all allies to attack. His leader ability gives each Geonosian ally + 15,000 health and max protection, + 50% health steal, 3% protection recovery when Geonosian allies use their base ability. On top of that, GBA’s unique ability at Max level connects all Geonosian allies to equalize their health and protection whenever an enemy uses an ability. It almost acts like a singular health pool as long as GBA is alive.
Geonosian Brood Alpha and the Geonosian team are required to unlock Wat Tambor in DS Geo TB, and are essential to easily unlock Padme Amidala in his Journey Guide event. The investment in equipment is rather tame since GBA is the main character of Relic and the mod among the overall team. They are also an effective team in most SWGOH game modes, but can easily be countered by Darth Traya or a mid-level Jawa team.
Padme Amidala is scary to fight if you don’t use a hard counter; you can attribute it to his political background. Padme Amidala grants a unique status effect, Courage, which supercharges attacks from allies of the Galactic Republic by dispelling Protection Up buffs. Galactic Republic characters generate a lot of Protection Up buffs, so they’re not hard to find with the right team. If these Protection Up buffs are unchecked, Padme Amidala can increase Jedi Knight Anakin’s AoE attack, which in itself can wipe out a team with one hit. Make sure to avoid stun abilities if you want to keep your Padme team alive.
You can unlock Padme Amidala through his Journey Guide event after forming a formidable Separatist squad. Her the better team would have Jedi Knight Anakin, General Kenobi, Shaak Ti and C-3PO.
Unlike tanks or attackers, there is no SWGOH Galactic Legend character with a support tag. Tons of Star Wars content will be released over the next couple of years, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see a Support Galactic Legend character in SWGOH in the not-so-distant future. Once this character drops, they’ll be sure to claim their right at the top of this list. Hope this means Galactic Legend Jar Jar Binks!
- Emperor Palpatine
- Admiral Piett
- Bastilla Shan (fallen)
- General Hux
- CT-7567 “Rex”
- Grandmaster Yoda
