There is a myriad of secret codes on Android that allow access to technical information on the device, to perform specific tests or actions. Several dozen or even hundreds of secret codes can be used on Android smartphones or tablets. We take stock of the most important ones.

The Android secret codes are not to be confused with USSD codes (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) that almost everyone uses or has ever used to interact with their operator’s services via GSM networks. Orange, for example, offers around twenty USSD codes to access some of its services. But these codes, unlike secret codes, do not depend on Android or the manufacturers, but on the operators.

Orange’s # 123 # code, which allows you to track your credit balance, will for example be accessible on any mobile OS. Although there are also universal secret codes like the famous * # 06 # to know your IMEI number. No more chatter: here is a list of all secret codes on Android.

How to make a secret code work on Android?

The secret codes on Android almost all end with a hash (#) and in some cases with an asterisk. An important difference between these and USSD codes is that they no need to press the green call button to validate the code.

Simply enter the code as if you are about to dial a phone number and if nothing happens, it is not working on your device. Sometimes the codes also depend on the version of Android you are using. These codes also work even when no SIM card is present in the smartphone.

Little warning before you start. It is important to know that some of these codes are likely to modify the parameters or the behavior of your device, format it, or even cause damage. So don’t push your curiosity too far, especially if you have no idea what you’re doing. And this, especially since the interfaces are in English, for those who are not too familiar with the language. We have affixed the ⚠️ emoji to report an unsafe code for your phone.
