Barren Badlands is a brand new area revealed with the latest free version New Pokémon Snap DLC. This map features an alternate path and 10 new Pokémon to photograph.
Arid Badlands Alternative Trail
To unlock the Barren Badlands Alternate Path, you must first reach Research Level 2. To do this, make a few passes around the map, get to know the Pokémon that live here, and take the best photos you can.
Once you’ve reached Research Level 2, you can unlock the Alternate Path right from the start of the course. During the day, simply throw an Illumina Orb at the Crystabloom next to the Balancing Rock. A meteor will hit it and make it fall into the geyser. Scan the area before reaching the geyser to be able to take the alternate path.
At night, nothing happens if you touch the Crystabloom. As soon as you land on Barren Badlands at night, hurl Illumina orbs at the dust trails running past you. It will attract the Digletts hidden under the ground. Take a quick photo of them, before they go underground. Make sure you hit at least three Digletts, and they’ll all run towards the boulder. Throw an Illumina Orb at the Crystabloom and the Digletts will push the boulder into the geyser. You can now discover the alternate path at night.

Barren Badlands is home to 10 new Pokémon to photograph, and 10 more we’ve already encountered on others New Pokémon Snap Plans. Some Pokémon are available as soon as you discover Barren Badlands for the first time, but others are not visible until you unlock Research Level 2.
