One of the strengths of the Google Home is of course its compatibility with many music streaming services. You will be able to enjoy your favorite music tracks directly on your connected speaker. Now find out how to play music by voice.

Enjoying YouTube Music for Free on Your Google Home

The audio streaming platform launched by YouTube in 2015 is very successful. But be aware that this offer comes with some restrictions. First, with the free plan, the pieces are interspersed with advertisements.

More annoyingly, it is impossible to ask your smart speaker to play a specific song or singer. This service is currently reserved for subscribers of the YouTube Music Premium service billed at 11.99 euros per month. Note that YouTube offers a free trial month to any new subscriber.

If you don’t plan to purchase a subscription, YouTube Music will still let you listen to music for free. You will not be able to choose a particular song but only a musical genre. But before we can do all that, we will have to modify the configuring your Google Home.

We will first set YouTube as the default music service. For this, you will need to bring your smartphone. We will then see how to launch a voice command?

  • Launch the Google Home app on your smartphone
  • Open your account settings
  • Press Services then select Music mode
  • Choose from the YouTube Music list as the default music service

If you are setting up a new speaker, you will need to select the YouTube Music service during the setup process. Importantly, using YouTube as the default music service will not prevent you from listening to other streaming services like Deezer or Spotify.

To do this, you will need to specify the name of the service used at the end of the order. For example, if you want to listen to Elton John on Spotify, all you have to do is say the following command: OK Google, play Elton John on Spotify.

As explained before, you will only be able to choose one music genre with the free version of YouTube Music. So when you ask for an artist, YouTube will offer you different songs in the same style as the singer or group requested.

Listen to the radio on your Google Home

YouTube Music offers a truly colossal catalog. There is really something to have fun. But for people who have remained faithful to the good old FM band, know that it is possible to listen to the radio directly on the connected speaker from Google.

Google Home is capable of streaming most radio stations. To do this, all you have to do is say the voice command: Ok Google plays Radio Nostalgie. The mastodons of the French radio landscape are very present (RTL, Virgin Radio, NRJ, Chérie FM, France Inter, etc.) The number of radios supported by the speaker continues to grow month by month. Moreover, Google Home is gradually replacing the radio sets of yesteryear.
