
Windows 11 contains quite a few new features, but one important feature is still missing: a screen recorder. Technically, Windows 11 does not have a built-in screen recorder. However, there are several ways to circumvent this inconvenience so that you can capture your screen. It’s not too complicated, but you will need to follow a few steps for setup. Here’s how to record your screen in Windows 11.
How to record your screen using Xbox Game Bar
Windows 11 does not have a built-in screen recorder, but there is one hidden in the Xbox Game Bar that comes preloaded. The only big drawback of this screen recorder is that it does not record the Windows desktop or file explorer. You must have an active window, otherwise the recording will not start. It also ends if you switch to File Explorer or Desktop. You can press the key Windows+Alt+R to turn the recorder on and off, or follow the steps below.
Simultaneously press the button Windows + G to display the overlay Xbox Game Bar.
Click on the button Save present in window Capture at the top left of the screen.
To stop recording, click the button Stop recording on the floating widget showing recording progress.
You will receive an Xbox-style notification stating that the game clip has been recordedconfirming that the screen recording was successful.
Screen recording clips captured by Xbox Game Bar will automatically save the file to the capture folder. It is usually found in the C drive > Users > Your username > Videos > Captures.
Record your screen in Windows 11 using Microsoft PowerPoint
For this one, you will need to have Microsoft Office installed on your PC. Office slideshow app PowerPoint can be used to record screen in Windows 11. Even though the main purpose of this method is to quickly add screen recording to slideshow, you can also use it to record screen in Windows 11. ‘ record to a separate file, making it a viable screen recording method.
Launch Microsoft PowerPoint.
Open a new or existing file, then add or select a slide to add a screen recording to.
Click on the tab Insertion from the menu ribbon at the top of the screen.
In the section Media near the end of the ribbon, select Screen recording.
On the overlay that appears, click the toggles Audio and Record Pointer to activate/deactivate them according to your choice, then click on Select Area.
Use the selection tool to select the area you want to save. If you want to record the whole screen, press the key Windows + Shift + F.
Click on Record to start recording. Use the button Stop to stop recording or use the key Windows + Shift + Q.
The video will be added to the slide. Right-click the added clip, then click Save Media As… . Name the file and click Save.
How to record your screen with OBS Studio
If you want to step out of Microsoft’s solutions and opt for a less complicated solution, OBS Studio is the way to go. It is a widely used, free and open source video recording, mixing and streaming software. Here’s how to record a screen with OBS Studio.
Download OBS-Studioinstall it and launch it.
On the launch screen, select Optimize for recording only, I won’t streamthen click Following.
Select your resolution and your FPS favorites, then click Following.
Confirm your settings and click Apply settings.
Add a scene using theplus (+) icon in the section Scenes in the lower left corner. Name it and click okay.
Click theplus (+) icon in the Sources section in the lower left corner, then click Show Capture. Name it and click okay.
Select the view to save from the drop-down menu, then click okay.
Click on the button Settings located in the lower right corner of the application.
Select Exit in the left navigation pane. Make sure the settings and save path match your preferences, then click okay.
Click on the button Start recording in the lower right corner. Click on Stop recording once you have finished.
You can find your screen recording in the previously specified recording path. If the quality is not what you want, you can change the options in the settings to suit your needs.
