On OnePlus, Samsung, and other Android phones, you can run multiple copies of the same app without third-party tools. Here’s how.
Do you have multiple accounts for an app, but your Android phone will only allow you to use one? No worries, there is a feature on some Android phones that allows you to run multiple copies of an app.
This way you can make a second copy of your favorite app, add your secondary account to it, and use that app as if it was the original app you have on your phone.
You don’t even need a third-party app to create clones of your installed apps. Here’s how to duplicate your Android apps.

Make Multiple Copies Of An Application On Android
To be clear, the feature to make multiple copies of an app is only available on some Android devices. You should find this feature on Samsung, Xiaomi, and OnePlus phones.
While each manufacturer has their own name for the feature – it’s called Dual Messenger on Samsung, for example – it works pretty much the same regardless of the phone.
Here’s how to get started. We used a OnePlus Android 10 phone for this demo:
- Open the app Settings .
- Scroll down, press Utilities , then press Parallel applications .
- You will see a list of apps that you can make copies of – not all apps are supported.
- Find the app you want to clone and place its toggle in position Enabled .
- Your phone will create and add a copy of the selected app to your app drawer.
Your newly created app won’t keep any of your existing settings. This gives you the ability to customize this app in a completely different way than the original app.
You are now ready to use your secondary account with the cloned app.
Where Does Android Save Data From Cloned Apps?
Your Android phone does not save the data of your cloned apps to the same directory as the original apps. However, it shouldn’t be too difficult to find this data.
On a OnePlus phone, you will find the data of your cloned apps in the section Storage of parallel applications. You can access this storage using an Android file manager.
What are the limits of cloning apps on Android?
A major limitation of app cloning is that you cannot clone all of your Android apps. There are some apps, like Google Chrome, for which you cannot yet create duplicates.
Basically, you can only make copies of apps that you see on the Parallel Apps screen. If an application is not listed, you cannot copy it.
Disable Multiple Copies Of An App On Android
Deleting your cloned apps is that easy:
- Go to Settings> Utilities> Parallel applications .
- Find the app for which you want to remove the duplicate and place its toggle in position Off .
Your phone will delete the duplicate application, along with all of its data. This will have no impact on the original copy of the application. You can continue to use it as you did.
Using Two Accounts In Android Apps
Running multiple instances of an app allows you to use multiple accounts for those apps on your phone. With this feature now built into your system, you don’t need to search for app cloning tools. You can now do this by simply flipping a switch on your Android device as shown above.
There are other benefits to cloning apps, including increasing your security. With the Shelter Tool, you can run apps in a sandbox to separate them from the rest of your system.
