Find users or posts for a specific tag on Instagram

If you don’t know how to find specific users to follow or interesting articles to post, you might be missing out on a lot of great content on Instagram. You can use Instagram’s search function on the official Instagram app and Instagram.com in a web browser.

Open the Instagram app on your mobile device (or go to Instagram.com) and sign in to start using Instagram search.

  1. Instagram search can be found in the “Explore” tab of the Instagram app, accessible by pressing themagnifying glass icon in the bottom menu. This should be the second icon from the left, between the main stream and the camera tab. You should see a search box at the very top that says ” Research “. Touch search to bring up your mobile device keyboard. On Instagram.com, you should see the Instagram search box at the top of your home feed as soon as you log in.
  2. Once you type in the Instagram search box, you will be able to type your search. You should notice four different tabs appearing at the top: Top, Accounts, Tags, and Places. To search for a tag, you can search for it with or without the hashtag symbol (like #photooftheday or photooftheday). Once you have typed in the search term, you can either choose the result you were looking for from the automatic best suggestions list, or press the ” Tags » to filter out all other results that are not tags. Instagram.com doesn’t have the same four search results tabs as the app, which makes filtering the results a bit more difficult. However, when you enter your search term, you’ll see a list of suggested results appear in a drop-down list – some will be tags (marked with the hashtag symbol (#) and others will be user accounts (marked with their profile photos).
  3. After tapping on a tag in theTags tabapp or clicked on a suggested tag in the Instagram.com drop-down menu, you’ll see a grid of photos and videos appear that have been tagged and posted by Instagram users in real time.

A selection of the best posts, i.e. those with the most affinities and comments, will be displayed in the app’s default tab and at the very top of Instagram.com. You can switch totab App Recent to see the most recent posts for that tag in the app or scroll through the top nine posts on Instagram.com.

If you are looking for tags on the app, you can follow a tag by tapping the blue Follow button so that all messages with this tag appear in your personal feed. You can still follow it at any time by tapping the hashtag and pressing the Next button.

In addition to finding posts with specific tags, you can also use Instagram search to find specific user accounts to follow. Enter the username or first name of a user. As with the search by tags, Instagram will give you a list of the main suggestions as you type.

If you know a friend’s username, you will get the best results by searching for that exact username in Instagram search. Finding users by their first and last names can be a bit more difficult because not everyone posts their full name on their Instagram profile and depending on the popularity of their name you might have to scroll through a lot of results. ‘users with the same name.

For Instagram search users, the most relevant and / or popular users are displayed at the top, along with their username, full name (if provided) and profile photo.

Instagram essentially determines the most relevant search results for the user by matching the accuracy of the username / full name and your social graph data.

You might get results based on your search history, Mutual Followers based on who you follow / follow, and your Facebook friends if you have your Facebook account logged into Instagram. The number of followers can also play an important role in how users appear in search, making it easier to find popular brands and celebrities through Instagram search.

If you’re looking for the account of a high profile person, such as a celebrity or politician, look for the blue check mark next to their name. This is a verified account. Verified accounts always appear at the top of the results to make it easier for you to find legitimate accounts.

Bonus: search for positions from locations

Instagram now allows you to search for posts that have been tagged in specific places. You just need to type the location in the search box and press thePlaces tab in the app or, if you’re on Instagram.com, search the drop-down list for results that have a location tracking icon next to them.
