Windows 11 - How to disable Snap layouts

In Windows 11, when you hover your mouse over the minimize / maximize button in an app window, you see various Snap layout options. If you find it annoying, you can turn them off. Here’s how to turn off Snap layouts in Windows 11.

Snap Layouts is a feature of Windows 11 that allows you to quickly move windows in your application. When you hover over the Minimize / Maximize button in an application window and select a layout from the menu, your application window follows that layout and changes position on the screen.

This pop-up overlay is definitely not for everyone, and if you don’t want it, you can turn it off. You can also just prevent the layout options from appearing when you hover over the minimize / maximize button, as we’ll explain below.

How to turn off Snap layouts in Windows 11

To turn off Snap Layouts in Windows 11, open the Settings app on your PC. To do this, press Windows + i keys.

In Settings, in the sidebar on the left, select “System”.

Select System

On the “System” screen, scroll down the right pane and click “Multitasking.”

Click Multitasking

At the top of the “Multitasking” screen, click the “Snap Windows” button to turn it off.

Disable Snap layouts

And Snap Layouts is now disabled. You will no longer see any layout options when you hover over the minimize / maximize button in an app window.

Remove layouts from the Minimize / Maximize button

If you want to keep Snap layouts enabled but don’t want the layout options on the minimize / maximize button, there is an option in settings to turn off those layout options. The feature will always remain enabled.

To do this, on the same “Multitasking” page where you have disabled “Snap Windows”, click on the “Snap Windows” menu and disable the option “Show snap layouts when I hover over the Maximize button of a window. “.

Disabled Windows Snap

This will keep Snap Layouts enabled without showing any options on the minimize / maximize buttons of an app window. And that’s all.

Snap Layouts is definitely a useful feature, but not everyone might want to use it. If you decide you don’t need it, you can turn it off. And later, if you want to get it back, you can activate it from the same settings page.
