How to connect, modify and troubleshoot your network

Your Google Home or Google Assistant speaker clings to your every word to provide music requests, smart home control, and query responses, but only if it’s connected to Wi-Fi.

This link needs to be established when you first set up your Google Nest Mini, Nest Audio, or Nest Hub, but you’ll need to navigate the Google Home app menus if you change your Wi-Fi network or reconnect after the initial setup. .

If you’re trying to connect your speakerphone to the same network that’s running on your phone or tablet, it should be pretty straightforward. Just have your password and Wi-Fi name ready when you follow the steps below.

Connect Google Home to Wi-Fi

You will be prompted to connect your speaker to a Wi-Fi network during the initial setup, but you can still go to an individual device’s settings menu and reconnect if, for some reason, the device forgot. your network.

We’ll show you how to do both below, but you’ll need the Google Home app installed on your phone or tablet, which you can do through the App Store or the Google Play Store.

Connect to Wi-Fi During Initial Setup

1. Open the Google Home app.

2. Click on the + sign at the top left and press Configure the device.

3. Navigate through the menus, selecting the location of your device and its name.

4. When the list of Wi-Fi networks appears, choose your network, enter the password and press Connect.

5. The pair will then shake hands for a few moments, before the app notifies you that the device is connected.

Connect to Wi-Fi after the initial setup

1. Open the Google Home app.

2. Select the device you want to connect to Wi-Fi from your parts list (or from the Local devices section in Account), then select the settings cog at the top right.

3. Select the Wireless (and choose your network from the list, enter the password and press Connect.

You might have changed networks or moved – whatever the reason, changing the Wi-Fi your Google Home and Assistant devices connect to couldn’t be easier. And, again, make sure your phone or tablet is connected to the same network you are trying to connect your speakerphone to.

1. Open the Google Home app.

2. Tap the device whose network you want to change, then tap the settings cog at the top right.

3. Press the Wireless option (in Device Info) in the list, then Forget the network.

4. You will be taken to the Home app’s main screen, from where you can follow the steps outlined above to connect your device to a new network.

Google Home won’t connect to Wi-Fi

The steps above should be enough to see your speaker connect to your Wi-Fi network, but we know from experience that this isn’t always the case. If your Google Home can’t connect to Wi-Fi, try the steps below:

  • Restart your router and wait 30 seconds.
  • Reset your Google Home or Assistant compatible device to factory settings.
  • Update your router’s firmware.
  • Make sure your speakerphone and phone / tablet are within range of the router.
  • Make sure your phone or tablet is connected to the same network you are trying to connect your speakerphone to.
