Eternatus VMAX was one of the best decks in the 2020/21 format. Paired with Galarian Slowbro V who could poison an opponent with his ability, as well as Toxicroak which put extra damage counters on Poisoned Pokémon, the Eternatus VMAX 2020/21 deck was capable of easy OHKOs.

The Rotation didn’t really affect Eternatus. He never used Dedenne-GX and none of the Rotées cards prevented him from developing in his niche. However, Pokemon TCG Online’s 2022 Standard Format Eternatus VMAX deck works quite differently.

This time we have new cards in the deck. Chilling Reign and Evolving Skies have given us new Dark-type attackers that pair well with Eternatus. Instead of going the poison route, we’re going for a more tech map like Umbreon VMAX, which has boss orders built in. We also have Galarian Moltres V for its excellent energy acceleration ability. The only thing Eternatus VMAX needs to build a deck is more Dark-type Pokémon, as each of these buffs has its own ability.

In this guide, I’m going to introduce you to the best Eternatus VMAX deck for the 2022 Pokemon TCG Online format. There are also a bunch of new mechanics in play that the 2020/21 deck had nothing in common with, so I’ll explain each of them as well.

Eternatus VMAX Standard Decklist for Pokemon TCG Online

Here is the most consistent Eternatus VMAX deck list I’ve used in Standard:

****** List of Pokémon Trading Card Game Decks ******

* 4 Crobate V SHF 44
* 4 Eternatus V DAA 116
* 2 Galarian Moltres V CRE 97

## Energy – 10

Total number of cards – 60

Since this is a very dark deck, its only weakness is the Combat-type decks. Urshifu VMAX decks are pretty rampant right now, and if this Pokémon launches (especially with Single Strike Scroll of Scorn) and you have a bad starting hand, there’s not much Eternatus can do about it. I wouldn’t change anything about this deck other than changing some of the Pokémon card numbers if you feel like it.

Eternatus V and VMAX

Eternatus V and VMAX are definitely in the top 5 most powerful Dark-type cards the game has ever released. Eternatus V is pretty average on its own, with a 120 + 120 conditional attack and a 30 damage attack that attaches energy (still good for the start of the game). We also have good ol ‘Crobat V that fills your hand every time you put it on your Bench. Crobat V, along with grassroots supporters like Marnie and Professor’s Research, will drive this deck.

Eternatus VMAX is where this deck goes crazy.

Ability – Eternal Zone
If all of your Pokémon in play are Dark-type, you can have up to 8 Pokémon on your Bench and you cannot put non-Dark Pokémon into play. (If this ability stops working, discard Pokémon from your Bench until you have 5.)

It can extend your bench and its attack deals +30 damage for the number of Dark-type Pokémon you have in play. Including Eternatus VMAX itself, you can deal 30 * 9 = 270 damage with just two Energy attachments. , which is a feat that even new cards cannot achieve.

The 2022 version of this deck allows attacking with Eternatus Easier. In the 2020/21 build, Galarian Slowbro V didn’t have much to do with Eternatus, but this deck has real synergy within the Pokémon themselves rather than the type as a whole. The deck also uses Capture Energy to bring your base Pokémon up faster, which is always useful in a deck that has a lot of extra bench space.

Galarian Moltres V and Energy Switch

Galarian Moltres V makes it easy to get energy on your Pokémon. On its own, Moltres is an average attacker, with a 190 damage 3 energy attack that also deals 30 damage to itself.

Ability – Noxious Flame Wings
Once during your turn, you may attach a Dark Energy card from your discard pile to this Pokémon. You cannot use more than one Noxious Flame Wings skill each turn.

Once you’ve attached energy to Moltres, you can then use the good old energy switch to transfer energy from it to any other Pokémon you choose. In the event that your opponent gets a lucky Crushing Hammer toss (which he always does), you can easily tie some extra energy to your Eternatus VMAX. In addition, there is a third attacker in this deck that has a 3 Energy attack: Umbreon VMAX, which benefits even more from those extra Energy.

Umbreon VMAX

All salute the King of Awakening. Umbreon’s VMAX ability is basically the effect of the super-OP supporter card, boss’s orders.

Ability – Dark Signal
When you play this Pokémon from your hand to evolve 1 of your Pokémon during your turn, you may switch 1 of your opponent’s Benched Pokémon with their Active Pokémon.

Umbreon can let you choose your opponent and destroy them with your Eternatus. Can it get better? Absolutely yes, because while Umbreon is balanced by a 160 damage attack, this deck also has a great damage distribution mechanic. One of the downsides of the poison variant was that the deck required you to have Galarian Slowbro V, and also Croagunk to become Toxicroak in order to get that extra poison damage. You have Evolution Incense in this new deck to allow you to easily evolve your Pokémon V.

The opponent could also simply switch Pokémon to get rid of the poison effect. This deck doesn’t go that way and instead uses damage distribution to increase Eternatus VMAX’s 270 damage and get easy OHKOs.

Distribution of damage with the old cemetery and the Galarian zigzagoon

Here we’re using the good ol ‘Galarian Zigazoon combo (which does 10 damage to any Pokémon you choose) and Scoop Up Net which you can use to pick up and play Zigzagoon again for 10 more damage.

You also have the Stadium Old Cemetery map which is quite boring to contend with. Whenever your opponent attaches energy to one of their non-Dark type Pokémon, they automatically take 20 damage. This stacks up really quickly, and having a Stadium card (which also, triplicate) in your deck allows you to always knock out their Path to the Peak, another Stadium card that can potentially block all of your abilities if you don’t. . replace it.

Considering these damage spread effects, Galarian Moltres V’s 190 damage is also increased to potentially 220+, which offsets its average base damage count.

Eternatus VMAX in extended version

The 2022 version of the Eternatus VMAX deck is doing quite well in Pokemon TCG Online. It doesn’t show up very often in tournaments because most players are keen to try out new decks, but when it does, it turns out to be a serious threat to everyone. Urshifu is a tough match, but Eternatus VMAX does well against one of the new Eeveelution decks featuring Inteleon. Eternatus is definitely here to stay another year and there are no more battle decks in sight in future expansions that could threaten him.

If you’re playing the Expanded format, be sure to take a look at this absolutely broken Eternatus VMAX and Darkrai-GX Expanded deck that you can earn Ladder payoffs with. This deck didn’t suffer from rotation at all and is still quite strong against newer decks.
