After many delays and social issues, CD Projekt Red has finally released what they’ve been teasing for years. So whoever follows closely Cyberpunk 2077 won’t be surprised to learn that he has lost 79% of his initial players. Well, this is surely a bummer for the creators as they have already suffered a lot for the game.

The hype surrounding Cyberpunk 2077 was very real and with so much hype, high expectations. Needless to say, the game failed to deliver with its hugely buggy launch, especially on next-gen consoles. Now Steam figures show that the game has dropped to 250,000 players , or nearly three-quarters of its original player base.

Well I would say RPG games tend to lose players over time. You can finish the script and look for new challenges, or get bored easily, but the fact that it happened in a month is what’s amazing. The Witcher 3 also saw a similar drop in player numbers, but it took months for that to happen.

That said, CD Projekt Red’s futuristic RPG is still a financial success as it managed to sell 13 million copies and was still in Steam’s best-selling games list maintaining the # 1 position until January 3.

The developers are currently working on bug fixes for unhappy console gamers and are also facing a class action lawsuit. I really hope that the developers can sweeten things up very soon so that players can happily return to the game.
