When we have a laptop, we want to get the most out of the battery. Something that can consume too much battery is precisely the screen. For this reason we will see how to adjust screen brightness in Windows manually and automatically in a fairly simple way.

Manually change screen brightness on laptop

In laptops we can find in the keys located between F1 and F2, those that correspond to increase or decrease the brightness of the screen.

For example, on my laptop they are on the F8 and F9 keys. How do you know? Because they have an icon with a “Sun” in some occasions the icon changes shape to increase and decrease, in others it simply has one date pointing up and one pointing down.

They are function keys, which means that we have to hold down the “Fn” key before pressing to change the brightness of the screen.

Automatically adjust brightness

Another way to change the brightness is from the operating system itself. We will just go to Settings> System> Screen and we can slide the bar left or right to increase or decrease the screen brightness.

Change screen brightness from Windows Control Panel

In the case of Windows 7, we will have to enter the “Control Panel”. Next we are going to go to “Hardware and Sound” and select the “Power Options”. Here we can see a sliding control of the screen brightness. In this way, we can save the battery of a Windows laptop.

We can also adjust it automatically. For this we will have to go to “Hardware and Sound” in the “Control Panel”. Next we will click on the option “Change plan settings” which is next to the power plan we are using.

Here we can set different levels of brightness. One with “Battery” and another “Connected to Power”. Another thing we can do is automatically adjust the screen brightness according to how much battery our laptop has left.

For this we will have to go to Settings> System> Battery. We will check the option “Reduce screen brightness in battery saving mode” and then we will have to select the percentage in which we want the battery saving mode to be activated.

When it reaches this percentage of battery, it will automatically activate the saving mode and in this way the brightness will decrease saving a lot of battery in the process.

Unfortunately, the only way to automatically adjust screen light is to save battery power. However, as you can see, it is not too difficult to adjust the brightness of the Windows screen.
